Uttarakhand's Principal Chief Conservator of Forests
The Shivaliks, amid the Himalayan foothills, are home to Rajaji Tiger Reserve, an Indian national park and tiger reserve[1]. It has an area of 820 km2[2] and encompasses three Uttarakhand districts: Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal. Chilla, Motichur, and Rajaji wildlife sanctuaries in the area were united into one in 1983. [2]
C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji), a key leader of the Freedom Struggle, the second and last Governor-General of independent India, and one of the first recipients of India's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna, has been honoured with the name Rajaji Tiger Reserve (in 1954).
